Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the mention of road accidents and academic performance. However, the analysis is slightly repetitive in places, and some points could be extended further to reach a higher band. For example, the link between 'work-life balance' and 'reducing errors' is a good start, but could be more explicitly connected to the physiological benefits of sleep. Overall, the position is clear throughout, and the response covers the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'consequently', 'for instance', and 'another reason', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions. To improve, the student should focus on varying the cohesive devices used to link sentences, as some structures are repeated, which slightly impacts the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'sleep deprivation', 'work-life balance', and 'natural sleep cycle'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'less concentrate at workplace' (should be 'less concentrated' or 'have less concentration') and 'many truck driver' (should be plural 'drivers'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, as some phrasing remains somewhat simplistic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many truck driver who does not get'), article usage ('at late night'), and awkward phrasing ('many individuals spend lots of hours browsing a social media'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization and preposition usage.
