Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, you provide specific examples such as truck drivers and students to illustrate the consequences of sleep deprivation. However, the essay occasionally slips into over-generalisation, and some points could be expanded further to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the structure is logical, covering the requirements of the task effectively. To improve, ensure that the link between the problem and the specific consequence is always explicitly stated to avoid any ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'for instance', and 'another reason' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'this can assist them' where the antecedent is slightly unclear). Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall flow is consistent, which meets the requirements for a band 6.5 or 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sleep deprivation', 'work-life balance', and 'mental well-being'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'less concentrate at workplace' (should be 'less concentrated' or 'have difficulty concentrating') and 'make proper time-table' (should be 'create a schedule'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise usage of collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'many truck driver who does not get' (should be 'many truck drivers who do not get') and 'at late night' (should be 'at night' or 'late at night'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. The errors rarely impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
