Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as decreased productivity and the importance of routine and diet. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how sedentary workers are impacted is vague and lacks a clear logical link to sleep deprivation. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements but remains somewhat superficial in its analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for problems and solutions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the phrasing 'To begin with the issues, that can cause by lack of sleep', which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother to ensure a more natural reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'sedentary', 'productivity', and 'insufficient'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'proper fix routines' and 'impact the outcomes of an essential work'. Some basic spelling errors, such as 'gettng' and 'lifestylei', also occur. To improve, the student should focus on more precise word choices and ensure that collocations are used accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction. Examples include 'the issues, that can cause by lack of sleep' (passive voice error), 'tasks that are need to be done' (incorrect verb form), and 'This all aspects mentioned above results in' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to subject-verb agreement and correct passive construction is needed.
