Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, two out of ten people have complaint that they have difficulties in getting enough sleep. This issue has been inclining over the last five years. We will discuss this problem and reasons behind this issue in detail in the upcoming paragraph.

However, lack of sleep causes a bundle of issues to a human being, which include heart attack, heart problems, low energy, headache, migraine and fatigue. Consequently, it also affects your focus on work and studies, because when a person does not get enough sleep, then the body feels lethargic all the time, which causes mental stress and irritation as well. According to my perspective, the main reason behind lack of sleep is overthinking and stress. In today's world, everyone is trying to make their life more lavish, but forgets about their mental health. Overthinking causes chemical reactions in our mind, which affects our sleep cycle drastically over time.

Whereas, according to some doctors and researchers, we can overcome this issue in just a couple of days. Doctors suggest that doing yoga for 30 min daily in the early morning can cure this issue, because yoga includes meditation, exercises and body balancing, this type of activities make our body more active and focused. In addition some researchers also make opinion that our food choice are also advantageous for curing this issue. They recommend having food before 7 PM in evening can be beneficial for a human body and simultaneously provides better sleep in a night time.

In Conclusion, I just want to add my suggestion that issues like lack of sleep are very common in today's world. But we can resolve this issues very smartly and rapidly if we work on ourselves and maintain a work-life balance from today on words.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention health issues like 'heart attack' and 'fatigue', these points are listed rather than fully explored. Similarly, the solutions—yoga and dietary changes—are introduced but lack depth in explanation. The introduction is slightly off-target, as it promises to discuss 'reasons behind this issue' in the upcoming paragraph, but the prompt specifically asked for 'problems' and 'solutions'. To reach a higher band, ensure that each idea is supported with more detailed reasoning or specific examples to demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Consequently', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Whereas' at the start of the third paragraph, which does not logically contrast with the previous paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'lethargic', 'drastically', and 'advantageous'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'has been inclining' (should be 'increasing'), 'make opinion' (should be 'are of the opinion'), and 'food choice are' (subject-verb agreement error). Some phrasing is also repetitive or informal, such as 'a bundle of issues'. To achieve a higher score, work on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are consistently accurate and appropriate for a formal essay context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'two out of ten people have complaint' (should be 'have a complaint' or 'complain'), 'this type of activities' (should be 'these types of activities'), and 'resolve this issues' (should be 'these issues'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with commas and articles. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and pluralization, and try to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures to demonstrate better control over your grammar.
