Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as eye strain, productivity loss, and the use of technology. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion to use medicine is mentioned without any nuance or caution, which limits the depth of the argument. The response covers all requirements but could benefit from more detailed explanations and specific examples to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the structure is appropriate for the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Firstly', and 'To recapitulate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the link between 'technology era' and 'eye strain' is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, and paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problems from the solutions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'fast paced world' and 'irreversible problem'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'improve their eye strain' (which should be 'cause' or 'exacerbate') and 'complete the lack of sleep' (which is unnatural). The range is sufficient to communicate ideas, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the several problem caused' (should be plural 'problems'), 'that can results in' (should be 'result'), and 'it can cured' (should be 'it can be cured'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
