Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is uneven. While the impact of social media and night shifts is mentioned, the discussion on solutions is extremely brief and lacks depth, appearing only in the final sentence. The examples provided, such as the claim about 80% of Japanese businesses, are not clearly linked to the prompt and appear factually questionable, which weakens the overall argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-developed solutions to the problem of sleep deprivation rather than just mentioning them in passing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the use of 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' is standard, but the internal flow within paragraphs is often disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'above notion', which does not clearly link back to the previous sentence. The conclusion is very abrupt and does not effectively summarize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs. Improving the use of cohesive devices to link sentences more naturally would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but shows significant limitations in precision and collocation. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'techno-savy era', 'heinous effect', and 'unobvious work schedule'. Some phrases are used incorrectly, such as 'ample of issues' (should be 'an ample number of issues') and 'folks completely dependable' (should be 'are completely dependent'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in collocation and word form prevent a higher score. Focusing on learning the correct context for academic vocabulary will help improve your precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('folks... dependable', 'people using... they making'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses. For instance, 'people using social media... they making reels' is a run-on sentence that lacks a proper verb structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. You should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and sentence boundary punctuation.
