Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the consequences of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The position is clear from the introduction, and the ideas are relevant. The consequences (health issues and reduced productivity) and solutions (exercise and meditation) are well-supported with logical explanations and a specific example regarding the University of Toronto study. To reach a higher band, the development could be slightly more expansive, particularly in the conclusion, which is quite brief. However, the response effectively covers all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central focus, and the transition between the problem and solution sections is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Turning to solutions', and 'Additionally' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The flow is natural, and the relationship between ideas is consistently clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You demonstrate a good range of topic-specific terms like 'physiological systems', 'cardiovascular', and 'mitigated'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'negative affect' (should be 'effect') and 'boon this issue' (should be 'boon for this issue'). Despite these occasional slips, the range is flexible enough to convey precise meaning, and the errors do not impede communication. Using more varied collocations would help elevate the score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is generally good control over grammar, though there are a few persistent errors. For instance, 'does not let an individual to rest' should be 'does not let an individual rest', and '70% participants who use to suffer' should be '70% of participants who used to suffer'. Punctuation is mostly accurate, though the conclusion starts with a lowercase 'in'. Despite these errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear.
