Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on 'dark circles' is quite narrow and focuses on physical appearance rather than broader health implications. The explanation of 'mind and body connection disturbance' is also underdeveloped, lacking specific detail or depth. While the solutions provided, such as sleep schedules, are relevant, they are explained in a repetitive manner. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more comprehensive explanations and explore the consequences of sleep deprivation—such as increased risk of accidents or long-term mental health issues—with greater depth and academic maturity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the problems to the solutions. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Nevertheless', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion', to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel abrupt, particularly in the second paragraph. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main sections of the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'important issue' and 'several problems'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'mind and body connection disturbance' and 'liberation from unusual scrolling'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('body produce', 'people... likes to follow'), missing articles ('a important issue', 'on mobile phone'), and awkward phrasing ('whose are doing night shifts'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammar, particularly article usage, pluralization, and subject-verb agreement, while also attempting more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
