Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the mention of 'excessive tiredness' and 'stress' as causes is relevant, the explanation of the actual problems resulting from sleep deprivation is weak and somewhat confused, particularly when discussing 'screening time' as a health issue rather than a cause of sleep loss. The solutions provided in the final paragraph are vague and lack sufficient detail or examples to fully support the argument. The response would benefit from more specific, well-developed examples to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive transitions. Phrases like 'To be more clear' are used twice in the same paragraph, which is redundant. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'Hammering on the last nail,' which is an inappropriate idiom for an academic essay. While there is an attempt to use linking words, the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, making the overall structure feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'number of human have difficulties to have an enough sleep' and 'put bad impact on their eyes.' The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to express complex ideas clearly. Some phrases are repetitive, and the attempt to use more formal language often results in unnatural phrasing. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology related to health and lifestyle.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('good health keep minds'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'which still not fulfilled in order to accomplish their dreams.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from achieving a higher score. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
