Student answer (Band 7.0)

A group of people is disappointed with their short sleep patterns as it is becoming a concerning situation for them. It could cause several physical and mental issues which can adversely impact daily life activities. However, adapting different measures will improve the quality and duration of sleep, which I will discuss in the following paragraphs.

One of the major problems with a disturbed sleep schedule is concentration. Uncertainty in sleep patterns could make people tired throughout the day which may impact focus on work or study. Thus, it would reduce productivity and growth as the chance of making mistakes would increase. For example, a person staying awake late in the night may not mentally prepare for the following day's tasks and may feel lethargic, which can impact their important tasks. Additionally, long-term sleep deprivation causes physical problems such as weakening the immune system, body pain and other health related isuues like obesity and heart problems.

This approach could be cured by following a strict bedtime routine. One should adapt habit of sleeping at approximately the same time every day. Also, people should avoid using social media devices before going to bed as it distracts them from being punctual. The harsh light and rays coming from the phone make it harder to sleep as it irritates the eyes. Furthermore, a healthy diet can also improve sleep. People should avoid caffeine intake in the evening. Making a comfortable bed and a noise-free environment reduces distractions when sleeping.

Overall, in this fast-paced life, adapting a good sleeping pattern is difficult and causes a negative impact on concentration and overall well-being. However, healthy habits such as reducing can increase sleep duration and enhance the quality of human health

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. For instance, you clearly explain the impact on concentration and productivity, and you provide practical solutions like establishing a routine and managing diet. However, the development is somewhat general. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples or elaborate further on the consequences, such as the long-term societal impact of sleep deprivation. The position is clear throughout, and the response stays focused on the topic, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as the consequences of sleep deprivation in the second paragraph and solutions in the third. You use cohesive devices like 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link ideas. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the referencing is clear. To improve, ensure that the connection between sentences is more fluid to avoid a list-like feel in some sections.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'adversely impact', 'sleep deprivation', and 'fast-paced life' are used correctly. There are some minor errors, such as 'isuues' (spelling) and 'adapt habit' (should be 'adopt a habit'). You attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is good, but there is room for more sophisticated collocations to enhance the natural flow. The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear, and your meaning is conveyed without difficulty. There are occasional grammatical slips, such as 'adapting different measures' (should be 'adopting') and 'reducing' in the conclusion, which is an incomplete thought. Punctuation is generally accurate, though some sentence structures could be more varied to demonstrate greater control. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but the occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring all complex sentences are fully formed.
