Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the recent days, many people voice out that they are having a hard time to get sound sleep. This can be mainly because of the mental strain of making ends meet and bad health habit. Several measures can be taken to tackle with insomnia, first being consulting with the doctors and second listening to what our body is demanding. This essay will discuss the reasons of sleep deprivation and corrective measures to get rid of such situation.
One of the main reasons why people are having difficulty in sleeping is because of the mental burden they have to bear because of the job pressure and becoming financially stable at the same time. Most people work two or even more jobs to achieve the quality of life they want for themselves and the family. However, working over time can negatively impact brain functioning which further releases more stress ultimately disturbing the sleep cycle. Also smoking cigarettes and eating junk food can cause the body to not function properly which can again lead to problem in sleeping properly. Studies have found that people with proper balanced diet meal sleeps 80% better than the ones who rely on junk food.
However, this problem can be solved by giving attention to our body. We need to stop and rest properly when our body asks for it. Over working only leads to stress and anxiety. With proper work-life balance people can have sound sleep. Similarly, people can always consult with the doctors and therapists regarding their sleeping pattern. These experts run several tests to see if our body is lacking anything that is causing lack of sleep. I have seen many people facing insomnia, later getting good quality of sleep after visiting the doctors and consuming necessary supplements as per the prescription of the doctor.
In conclusion, people need to avoid consuming unhealthy food and devoting more hours in work causing extra stress to their body and brain to sleep properly. Also, taking the advice from medical professionals, and streamlining their income can help prevent lack of sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of financial stress on brain function and the importance of medical consultation. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the 'problems' section focuses heavily on the causes of sleep deprivation rather than the consequences (e.g., health issues, productivity loss, or emotional instability). While the essay covers the requirements, the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band by explicitly detailing the negative outcomes of sleep deprivation beyond just 'not functioning properly'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Similarly', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the 'problems' and 'solutions' could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'insomnia', 'work-life balance', and 'medical professionals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'voice out' instead of 'express' or 'complain', and 'bad health habit' instead of 'unhealthy lifestyle'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Some phrasing is slightly informal for an essay format.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'in the recent days' (should be 'recently'), 'hard time to get' (should be 'hard time getting'), and 'people with proper balanced diet meal sleeps' (subject-verb agreement error: 'people... sleep'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. The control of grammar is sufficient for communication, but the frequency of errors prevents a higher score.
