Student answer (Band 6.0)

Presently, many people are struggling getting an appropriate amount of sleep across the world. These situations have plenty of reasons such as mental stress and busy life. In the upcoming paragraphs , I will explain the causes and solutions for this.

One of the most prominent concerns is tight schedules. A woman who is struggling to balance between the work and personal life gets very difficult. Busy work life, managing household chores, strict deadlines for work, and upbringing kids , all at the same times affects the sleeping cycle. This does not only damages an individual’s mental peace but also impact the relationship with others. These situations starts getting aggressive over a time and results into diseases like anxiety, depression and mental instability. Secondly, another reason behind would be an addiction of watching screen or reading books by staying up in the night. The initial hobby and passion turns into life long problem of sleep deprivation.

Although, these obstacles seem overwhelming, there are many simple ways to resolve this. Firstly, making a schedule of going to bed and waking up on a same time and following it consistently will support the body to act accordingly. Secondary, consuming a lighter meal at night, as it promotes a restful sleep as compared to the junk foods. Lastly, if these strategies does not yield any desired benefits, consider consulting a medical professional who may offer any treatments or medicines .

In conclusion, people prioritize their tasks according to the need in their life although they should always prioritize the health over anything else. In my opinion, one should always place great importance on obtaining sleep because it is very essential for overall wellbeing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact on mental health and the role of screen time. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The discussion on problems is more detailed than the solutions, which are presented in a list-like fashion. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your solutions—for example, explaining the physiological benefits of a consistent sleep schedule or the psychological impact of professional therapy. The position is clear, but the overall depth of analysis could be improved to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondary,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Secondary' (should be 'Secondly') and 'Although, these obstacles...' which is punctuated incorrectly. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, 'These situations' in the second paragraph refers back to a list of activities rather than a specific noun phrase. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your arguments feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prominent concerns,' 'sleep deprivation,' and 'wellbeing.' However, there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'struggling getting' (should be 'struggling to get'), 'results into' (should be 'results in'), and 'addiction of watching' (should be 'addiction to watching'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and prepositions. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would enhance the overall quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('These situations starts,' 'strategies does not') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement rules and ensuring that complex structures are punctuated correctly. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will be key to moving into the 7.0 band range.
