Student answer (Band 6.5)
In this modern world, a lot of people are complaining about the reduced hours in sleep. In this essay, I will explain possible sources for lack of sleep and problems caused by it.
To begin with, studies have shown that there is an exponential increase in phone and internet usage by people staying in developed countries. The social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Whatsapp, has features such as reels and chatting. People are spending too much time scrolling through reels, which is a 30 second short-video format. The internet and AI has played significant role as well. Students and teenage children are spending significant time on screen compare to few years back.
Secondly, lack of sleep can cause plethora of problems to people. Firstly, the person felt sleepy and unmotivated in the morning. At work, they could not concentrate on their work and it could lead to undesirable situations. The eyes are the most impacted human part, as increased usage reduce clear eye sight and leads to blindness. Lack of sleep also plays major role in heart disease. Recent studies showed increased number of heart attacks in people age below 35, and reduced sleep hours is major factor.
Therefore, to overcome this issue, people should start spending more time on activities which keeps them away from phone and screen time. It includes night walks, reading a book before bed, drawing and craft activities before bed, playing board games, reading books for children and playing cards with family members and much more. These activities calms down mind and reduces stress level, which eventually helps people to sleep faster. Doing physical activities helps you to eat more clean, fresh and vitamin rich foods, and leads to great deep sleeping.
I've started going on night walks and reading books before bed. I also started taking omega-3 and magnesium, which lowers my stress level and helps my body to recover for next day. I've felt increase level of energy and concentration level during my working hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the introduction states the essay will explain 'sources for lack of sleep,' but the body paragraphs focus primarily on phone usage as the cause, which is a bit narrow. While the solutions are practical and supported by personal experience, the connection between the causes and the solutions could be more explicitly linked to ensure a more cohesive argument. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, the use of 'before bed' is repeated multiple times in the same paragraph, which affects the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, causes, effects, solutions, and personal conclusion, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated phrasing like 'exponential increase' and 'plethora of problems.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reduced hours in sleep' (should be 'reduced sleep duration') and 'eat more clean' (should be 'eat cleaner'). The phrase 'impacted human part' is also unnatural. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, the lack of precision in some areas prevents a higher score. Expanding the range of topic-specific collocations would improve the quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, such as 'applications... has features' (should be 'have') and 'internet and AI has played' (should be 'have played'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'compare to few years back' (should be 'compared to a few years ago'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more consistent accuracy in complex structures and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement.
