Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to me that’s the biggest issue among today’s generation. There could be many reasons but the main reasons are mobile phones, no outdoor activities and woke up late in the afternoon’s. But there are also some people who don’t have any options they have to work and studies at one time and they don’t have time for enough sleep. There are many health issues that can be occur due to lack of sleep. For instance, migraine, regular headache, servical pain or weak eyesight. However, I remember when I was doing my degree and work part- time I was not able to do proper rest and sleep for 7-8 hours that human body needs daily because I have to do my assignments, college activities and work on same days. On that time I experience so many health problems like, headaches and eye redness and soreness in body. But when I think changed sleep schedule and started taking supplements and daily exercise might help for these problems or when people stop taking extra stress for things and start doing daily activities may be able to get rid from these type of problems. Moreover, People who do not follow proper diet and do not drink water properly also face problems like this. It is really hard for people who works night shifts to get a good sleep.

By concluding everything, I think good workout, activities and daily supplements and reducing the screen time might help with these lack of sleep issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is limited. The ideas are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully explored or supported with detailed reasoning. Furthermore, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the depth of the argument. While the personal anecdote provides some relevance, the overall structure lacks a formal introduction and a clear, well-developed conclusion. To improve, you should aim to expand on each point with more specific explanations and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement to allow for full task development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks clear paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. It is presented as a single block of text, which is a significant weakness in terms of structure. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Moreover', 'However', 'By concluding'), they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between the problems and the solutions is abrupt. To improve, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, body paragraphs for problems and solutions, and a clear conclusion. This will help the reader navigate your arguments more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'woke up late in the afternoon’s' and 'servical pain'. The use of 'get rid from' is also non-standard. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in collocation limit the score. You should focus on learning more precise collocations related to health and lifestyle to improve your lexical range and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many health issues that can be occur'), tense inconsistencies ('when I think changed sleep schedule'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. There is a lack of variety in sentence construction. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
