Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. For instance, the discussion on the consequences of sleep deprivation is limited to 'not enough sleep' rather than exploring specific health or cognitive impacts. The solutions are practical but could be expanded with more depth. Because the word count is below the threshold, the task is not fully addressed in terms of length, leading to a lower score in this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the problems, solutions, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'This are the best solutions' in the conclusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied linking words. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the overall cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'addication' (addiction), 'mobilephones', 'thier' (their), and 'relexed' (relaxed). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'problems' and 'good'. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequent spelling and word-choice errors indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'Many people faces' and 'Many Individuals have problems... tried to maintain', as well as awkward phrasing such as 'to over come from this problem'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. Improving sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
