Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent time, it is often seen that people do not get enough sleep which they used to get. Some people claim it will cause numerous problem, such as some health issues, start seeing some behavior changes. However, there are some of the steps could be taken to mitigate this problem. In the coming paragraphs, I will discuss the problems and the suggestions to wrap up an essay.

The predominant problem people usually face with a lack of sleep could be health issues. To explain, as people know, human body is designated in such manner where they need to have at least 7-8 hours of sleep, and people usually tend to overlap it due to multiple reasons. Thus, if people do not sleep enough, there is a possibility they may face numerous health issues which are caused by lack of sleep. For example, headache, some eyes related problem and such. The second reason could be behavior changes. There are many people who do not take enough rest or do not sleep enough due to work or some financial issues. Therefore, if someone continuously start compromising their sleep, they may start seeing some behavioral changes, such as feeling angry all the time or start isolating themselves.

However, there are multiple solutions available to resolve this problem. The first solution could be fixing the schedule. To explain, someone who lacks the sleep, the first thing they should do is to make the schedule in which they plan their activities through out the day. In addition, they should also fix their timing getting to bed and getting off from the bed. This may lead them to have enough sleep. In addition, they should also fix their timing operating the electronic gadgets. For example, people especially children stay active during the nights while operating the smarts phones, and this may led them not to have enough sleep. Thus, fix the timing and stay away from such gadgets during the night.

To wrap up, people are tend to sleep less due to multiple reasons. However, I feel people should never compromise their sleep over anything to keep themselves fit and healthy for a long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as health issues and behavioral changes, and the solutions regarding scheduling and limiting electronic usage are practical. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on health issues remains quite general (e.g., 'headache, some eyes related problem'). To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations or specific examples to fully extend your arguments. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development is limited by the lack of sophisticated supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For example, the phrase 'To explain' is used twice in a similar way, which makes the structure feel slightly formulaic. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Some people claim it will cause numerous problem', where the pronoun 'it' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'do not get enough sleep' and 'fix the timing'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'getting off from the bed' instead of 'getting out of bed' and 'operating the electronic gadgets'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday language. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to health and sleep hygiene, such as 'circadian rhythm', 'cognitive impairment', or 'sleep deprivation'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'people are tend to sleep less' (incorrect passive construction), 'if someone continuously start compromising' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'this may led them' (incorrect verb tense). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in article usage and pluralization throughout the text. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
