Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 88 words. Because the essay is incomplete, it fails to address the prompt fully. The ideas regarding the causes of sleep deprivation are introduced but not developed, and the second part of the prompt—what can be done about it—is entirely missing. Consequently, the response is severely underdeveloped and fails to meet the basic requirements of the task. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, body paragraphs that explore both parts of the question with supporting examples, and a clear conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure due to its unfinished state. While there is an attempt at an introduction and a transition to a body paragraph using 'To commence with', the progression of ideas is interrupted by the abrupt ending. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences effectively, and the paragraphing is incomplete. To achieve a higher score, you need to organize your thoughts into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt, and use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to create a logical flow between your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'so many diseases are very common' and 'fast life' are simplistic and lack the precision expected at higher levels. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'physical complain' (should be 'complaint') and 'most commonest' (a double superlative error). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to health and lifestyle, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical form. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your ideas more clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that hinder clarity. Examples include 'there are so many diseases are very common' (incorrect sentence structure), 'we discussing' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'every age group have' (subject-verb agreement error). The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of verb tenses. Practicing complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
