Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of digital devices and the role of parental guidance. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The conclusion is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the points. While the position is clear, the lack of a finished conclusion impacts the overall development of the response. To improve, ensure that all paragraphs are fully formed and that the conclusion provides a cohesive wrap-up of the main arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for problems and solutions, and a (partial) conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Foremost among all other', 'In addition to this', and 'Turning to the possible solutions'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'are mentioned in ensuing paragraphs'. The referencing is generally clear, but the abrupt ending of the final paragraph significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are completed would enhance the logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'plethora', 'retardation', and 'materialistic'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'brain-drain' (used incorrectly here), 'mental stress retardation' (unnatural collocation), and 'digital dependancy' (spelling error). While the meaning is usually clear, the lack of precision in word choice limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more naturally and ensuring that academic vocabulary is used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people seek for professional help' (unnecessary preposition), 'the extreme use... among the children' (article usage), and 'will definitely helpful' (missing verb). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence construction, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms would be beneficial.
