Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay addresses both parts of the prompt—the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions—the discussion is underdeveloped. The points regarding nutrition and exercise are introduced but lack sufficient depth or specific, illustrative examples to fully satisfy the task requirements. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. This lack of completion prevents a clear, fully developed position from being established, resulting in a lower score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Firstly'. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition from nutrition to health problems is slightly abrupt. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical nature of the linking words limits the flow. Because the essay is incomplete, the final paragraph fails to provide a cohesive summary, which disrupts the overall structure of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and imprecise word choices, such as 'getting the deep sleep', 'create a big mess', and 'dark sleep'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'melatonin', 'serotonin', and 'supplements', these are not always used with complete accuracy. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the repetition of basic words hinders the sophistication of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there are lot of measures can be taken', 'which had no enough ingredients', and 'doing exercise daily make the person calm'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final incomplete sentence.
