Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's society, finding solutions to societal challenges has become increasingly important. Within different communities, issues like having problems to get proper sleep have surfaced as significant obstacles that demand an immediate consideration. In my opinion, it is critically important to identify both practical and sustainable solutions to address these predicaments.

To begin with, it is true that many individuals are complaining that they are having difficulty to get enough sleep. Firstly, people are primarily prone to indoor activities such as video games. Hence, it results into body more lethargic and reduce the sleeping cycle. Secondly, many people are facing mental stress due to burden at workplace and disturbance in their private life. Moreover, false information on internet about drawbacks of more sleeping can lead more pressure to avoid sleep. Hence, it results into changes in body. To elaborate it, mainly young people follow internet information and take less sleep which lead into brain related problems such as depression.

On the other hand there are several approach which can resolve the matter. Teachers and parents should encourage children to participate in outdoor games such as football, hockey as their interest. Hence, it can make their body energetic and tired which help to get enough sleep. Individuals should maintain a balance between their personal life and work place. They can join gym, pilates and go for gentle walks to distract their mind from stress to relaxing zone. Additionally, people should not totally rely on internet predictions about the sleeping cycle. For example, many researchers found that normal 6-8 hours of sleep is essential in order to relax their body and keep it ready for another day.

In conclusion, tackling the challenge of individuals having trouble to get proper sleep is essential that demand immediate consideration. By understanding the underlying causes and implementing target solutions such as encouraging for outdoor play, participating in gym, walks and do not rely on false internet information, we can mitigate the problems impact and move towards a sustainable future. Overall, a proactive measures and community engagement are vital in addressing and resolving the issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of sedentary lifestyles and workplace stress, and the solutions provided, like physical activity and work-life balance, are practical. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'brain related problems' is vague and could have been expanded with more specific examples. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the analysis of the consequences of sleep deprivation to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'On the other hand' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Hence, it results into body more lethargic.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety and natural phrasing to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'sedentary,' 'sustainable,' and 'mitigate,' though some word choices are imprecise or non-idiomatic, such as 'problems to get proper sleep' instead of 'difficulty getting proper sleep' and 'relaxing zone' instead of 'state of relaxation.' Some collocations are also slightly off, such as 'take less sleep' instead of 'get less sleep.' The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary is needed for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'problems to get' (should be 'problems getting'), 'results into body more lethargic' (should be 'results in the body becoming more lethargic'), and 'encouraging for outdoor play' (should be 'encouraging outdoor play'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching the 7.0 band.
