Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the today's world, many people are struggling to get enough sleep. In my opinion, lack of sleep could significantly impact their performance at work and may also lead to serious health issues. To improve the sleep efficiency it is important to follow a strict daily sleep routine and reduce screen time at night.

One of the major problems that humans experience due to insufficient sleep is the body recovery. Usually body tries to recover from the everyday strain when it is in complete relaxed mode like sleeping. If a person doesn't get enough rest then it disturbs the whole internal healing process. One a long run it may also cause some serious health issues like amnesia and neurological disorders. Also, sleep deprivation can make the body and mind feel exhausted and could not function at its maximum level. For example, people who have a habit to late to bed often feel exhausted during their office hours and could not perform at their best capacity due to lack of sleep.

In order to overcome the sleep related problems individuals should focus on regular sleeping routines like finishing their work on a specific time, try to avoid extending their working hours and having early dinner. These habits will prepare your body for a calm and relaxed sleep. Also, restrain watching TV or mobiles at least a hour before the bedtime could be an add-on for a deep focused relaxation. For instance, avoiding screens at night can make you fall asleep early and give you best chance to stay in bed for long time, which can eventually make you feel more fresh and comfortable in the morning.

In conclusion, as many people in current generation complain about their insufficient sleeping hours, I believe that lack of sleep could make them feel low at job and eventually lead to health problems. I order to help themselves they should follow a strict sleeping pattern and limit the screen watch times at night.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are relevant, such as the impact on physical recovery and the suggestion of reducing screen time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the mention of 'amnesia' as a consequence of sleep deprivation is a bit extreme and lacks nuance. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific, well-integrated examples rather than brief mentions. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the depth of analysis could be improved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the major problems', 'Also', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of the text. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as 'One a long run' (should be 'In the long run'). Paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between sentences could be smoother in some places.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'insufficient sleep', 'internal healing process', and 'neurological disorders'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sleep efficiency' (which is slightly unnatural in this context), 'screen watch times', and 'feel low at job'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise usage. You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the control is not yet consistent enough for a higher band. Focusing on natural collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'In the today's world' (unnecessary 'the'), 'habit to late to bed' (missing verb), and 'a hour' (should be 'an hour'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
