Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is uneven. While the essay identifies problems like fatigue and health issues, the second part of the prompt—what can be done about it—is almost entirely missing from the body paragraphs. The conclusion mentions problems again but fails to offer concrete solutions. The ideas are relevant but remain under-developed, and the focus shifts away from the prompt's requirements. To improve, ensure that each part of the question is given equal weight and that solutions are clearly articulated and supported with examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used, they are somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'These thing are not for everyday', where the antecedent is vague. The logical flow within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect the problems to the solutions. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring clear transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language, such as 'get enough sleep' and 'things'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'less concentrate' instead of 'lack of concentration' or 'housing responsibilities' instead of 'household chores'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'effects very slowly but badly for eyes'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to health, sleep hygiene, and lifestyle management, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people do not getting good sleep' (incorrect verb form), 'effects very slowly' (confusing effect/affect), and 'less concentrate' (incorrect word class). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence boundaries and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic sentence construction. Focusing on consistent verb tenses and correct word forms will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
