Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days number of people are unable to get enough sleep. This issue can cause multiple problems in daily life. I think taking precautions like less use of cell phone can help in the improvement of this issue.

The primary cause of less sleep is reduction in productivity while performing any task at work. Most of the jobs today needs people who are both mentally and physically fit to perform multi tasks at work, while lack of sleep can make individuals restless which contribute towards poor performance. This issue will limit the individuals to get good opportunities within the company they are working due to the mistakes they repeat at work.

Secondly, people can face lack of presence with family during the day as they are restless from sleepless nights. This will not only harm their personal relations with family but also dangerous for themselves while driving back to home or coming back from shopping. As they are not feeling attentive in conversations which can disappoint family on personal level. However, they are more likely to spend time in there phone to distract themselves from major discussions. Therefore, sleeping enough hours are significantly important for people.

In my opinion, people today likes to be isolated with their cell phones which makes them limited for other chores and there interests are only to spend maximum time in their bedroom with phones or video games. This development in individuals leaves them with less time to sleep as they like to play games during night time after they come back from work. They also like to post content on their social media related to their life which makes them more occupied. I think they should spend less time on their phone, this will allow them to get enough hours of sleep which will directly contribute to their productivity level both professionally and personally.

In conclusion, less sleep is leaving people with stress and ineffective at work and also affecting their personal relations, whereas this trend can be controlled by making strict rules on lifestyle and reducing screen time after finishing work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as decreased productivity and strained personal relationships. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the link between 'lack of presence with family' and 'driving back to home' is a bit disjointed. While the position is clear, some arguments could be more thoroughly extended with specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements, but the depth of exploration is moderate rather than fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary cause,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This development in individuals leaves them with less time.' Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'there' instead of 'their' and the vague connection between the phone usage argument and the previous points. Overall, the progression is clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'productivity,' 'restless,' and 'distract.' However, there are recurring issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'lack of presence with family' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'sleeping enough hours are significantly important.' The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary prevents a higher score. Spelling is generally accurate, though minor errors persist.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Most of the jobs today needs,' 'people today likes') and article usage ('number of people'). There are also persistent errors with homophones (e.g., 'there phone' instead of 'their phone'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching the 7.0 band. Greater attention to basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading is needed.
