Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The discussion regarding the causes of sleep deprivation—such as 'deficiency in the production of blood cells'—is scientifically inaccurate and lacks logical support. The comparison between the past and present is overly generalized and does not directly answer the prompt's focus on the consequences of sleep deprivation (e.g., health issues, productivity, or mental well-being). The ideas remain at a surface level, and the response would benefit from more specific, well-supported examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas logically. For example, the transition between the historical comparison and the modern-day problems is abrupt. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the repetition of phrases like 'people complain that they have problem of lack of sleep' makes the text feel mechanical. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively guide the reader through a clear, logical progression of arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'taking more sleep' instead of 'getting enough sleep' and 'invite in the worries'. Some phrases are used incorrectly, such as 'stuff their mind with the thing', which sounds unnatural. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to express more nuanced points, and the errors in word choice are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('their body have deficiency', 'people are worry'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('they should not to understand'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent and occur across a range of basic structures, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
