Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why lack of sleep leads to poor concentration is brief, and the example provided—an employee scolding their child—is slightly tangential to the workplace context. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth and supporting evidence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the consequences (e.g., long-term health risks like heart disease or cognitive decline) and provide more detailed, logical solutions beyond basic diet and medication.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At the outset', 'Shifting to the other side', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For instance, the link between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'who do not sleep for the minimum hours', where the pronoun usage is awkward. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'sleeping harmones', 'facile way', and 'sleeping deficiency'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and you rely on some repetitive phrasing. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations (e.g., 'sleep deprivation' instead of 'sleeping deficiency') and incorporating more sophisticated vocabulary related to health and lifestyle to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('sleeping habits has no exception', 'mind do not get'), article usage ('the' missing before 'sleeping'), and awkward phrasing ('an employee may scolded their child'). While you attempt complex sentences, they are often marred by these errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent tense usage. Proofreading for small errors like missing auxiliary verbs will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
