Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the question by discussing problems associated with a lack of sleep and offering solutions. The main issue identified is 'brain fog,' which is relevant, though its explanation could be expanded. However, the response lacks depth in discussing the negative impacts and possible solutions. The examples provided, such as the study from Oxford University, bolster the argument but more diverse examples could enhance the response. Overall, while the task is approached, a fuller exploration of both aspects is needed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The structure of the essay is clear, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph is logically sequenced, which aids coherence. However, there are minor cohesion issues, particularly in the transition between points. For instance, the phrase ‘as a result’ might be replaced by something more specific to clarify the connection to preceding ideas. The conclusion summarizes the key points but could better restate suggestions in a more engaging manner.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate, with terms like "sleep apnea" and "structured routine" demonstrating a good range. However, several phrases lack precision or formal tone, such as "not getting enough sleep" which could be replaced with "insufficient sleep". There are instances of repetition, such as the use of "sleep" multiple times in close succession without variation. More varied vocabulary would strengthen the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Grammatical range is acceptable, with a mixture of simple and complex sentences. However, there are noticeable errors that hinder clarity, such as capitalization (e.g., "sleep" should be "Sleep") and word forms (e.g., "in cooperate" should be "incorporate"). There are also errors in punctuation, such as missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the errors affect the sophistication expected at higher band levels.

Overall feedback

Your essay presents a relevant discussion on the problems related to lack of sleep and suggests some practical solutions. Strengths include a structured format and relevant examples that contribute to your argument. However, you should aim to enhance the depth of your analysis. Adding varied vocabulary and grammatical structures would elevate your writing. Focus on improving the clarity of your ideas, especially in linking them more effectively. Overall, you are on the right track, but further refinement of your language and elaboration on your points would improve your score significantly.
