Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the discussion on cognitive decline and the suggestion of meditation. However, the development is occasionally hindered by grammatical inaccuracies that make some points less clear. For instance, the explanation of 'physical movements' and 'mental responses' is slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the problem and the specific example is more explicitly stated to avoid over-generalisation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Both, the problems and the measures will discuss'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the progression of ideas feel a bit abrupt at times. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cognitive', 'insomnia', and 'work-life balance'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'not get the enough sleep' and 'perfect sleeping routine'. The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent it from reaching a higher band. Focusing on natural collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Insufficient sleep can creates'), missing articles ('the enough sleep'), and awkward phrasing ('mind give sign to be sleep'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and focusing on basic grammatical accuracy is essential.
