Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as cognitive decline and the benefits of meditation. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the problems are listed clearly, the explanation of the solutions could be more detailed. For instance, the suggestion to 'maintain a sleeping schedule' is a good starting point, but it lacks depth in terms of practical implementation. The response maintains a clear position throughout, and the ideas are generally well-supported, though some points, like the '70% of health issues' statistic, lack clarity or context. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'In order to situation some steps can be taken'. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel a bit disjointed due to grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions, which aids the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, though it is somewhat repetitive and contains several spelling errors (e.g., 'geting', 'mentle', 'Insufficienet', 'examplify'). There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'insomnia', 'cognitive', and 'reaction time', which is positive. However, word choice is occasionally imprecise, such as 'It can be causes' or 'make fix time'. The student demonstrates enough vocabulary to communicate ideas clearly, but the frequent spelling mistakes and minor collocation errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Insufficienet sleep can creates', 'it can reduces'), incorrect verb forms ('It can be causes'), and missing articles or prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and noticeable. The student attempts complex structures, but they often contain errors that affect the accuracy of the expression. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for agreement errors would significantly improve the score.
