Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, sleep deficiency has become a major concern across the globe. Most of the people are concerned about sleep, as they are not able to get enough of it. Lack of sleep can cause ample issues, but are not limited to high stress and malfunctioning of the body. However, meditation and exercise can help to improve sleep.
To begin with, the serious effect of lack of sleep is high stress. This is because the person's mind is unable to work calmly when his/her sleep is complete, and the person cannot concentrate on work. For example, if routine tasks are not completed on time, they will be postponed to the next day. Pending work not only increases stress but also affects work-life balance. Nevertheless, to mitigate the problem of sleeplessness, meditation is the best way. During meditation, the mind gets relieved from stress, which helps to improve the concentration of the mind.
Moreover, Lack of sleep can affect the functioning of other body parts. As body parts are controlled by the brain, it needs to get rest. When the brain is not getting enough rest, it will be hard to give signals to the body parts to perform their functions. That will disrupt the working of the heart or other parts of the body. However, exercise and yoga can also be beneficial for improving sleep. Due to various vigorous moves, the body gets tired as well as the functioning of other parts will strengthen.
To conclude, although improper sleep can cause some serious problems, such as an increase in stress and interruption in body functioning; however, the sleeplessness can be removed by physical exercise and mind relaxation activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on the 'malfunctioning of the body' is quite general and could have been strengthened with more specific examples, such as the impact on the immune system or cognitive decline. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a surface level, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with concrete evidence or logical consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and the use of 'however' in the concluding sentence is redundant because it follows 'although', creating a grammatical error that slightly disrupts the cohesion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era', 'mitigate', and 'vigorous'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sleep is complete' (should be 'sufficient' or 'adequate') and 'removed by physical exercise' (should be 'alleviated' or 'addressed'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Most of the people are concerned' (should be 'Most people'), 'when his/her sleep is complete', and the incorrect use of 'however' in the final sentence. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some minor errors in sentence construction. The control of grammar is sufficient to avoid confusion, but the frequency of errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conjunctions would be beneficial.
