Student answer (Band 6.0)

In Todays world, People have a lot of work to do and therefore they do not take care of themselves which can cause health issues. One major health problem is insomnia. This can be due to tension of work or even this can be due to lack of time. Further, In this essay I will be discussing the problems that can cause lack of sleep and what possible solutions can be made to avoid it.

Firstly, the major reason in having difficulty in getting sleep could be due to depression. If a person is going through something very serious and keeps thinking about it they might not get to sleep. Another reason might be deficiency of time. Some individuals might not have enough time to sleep as they have to work or study for their exams. For Instance, being an international student, the person has to work for money as well as study for their exams. Therefore, they will not have enough time to sleep at night due to their busy schedule. Lastly, one cause can be mobile phones or computers. Teenagers avoid their sleep for playing games or watching movies late night. This can lead to many health issues like fatigue, weakness lack of attention and many more.

Moreover, there are many difficulties but this can be fixed if people are educated well about this issue. The schools or government could run a campaign by educating everyone how essential sleep is. Even Parents should teach their kins about regular sleep cycle and food diet. They should have a routine schedule for them. There can be some strict rules like not watching phone or television after 8 PM, having healthy food, exercising every day and try to keep the body fit and fine.

In conclusion, lack of sleep can cause many serious physical and mental health problems, including stress, poor concentration, and a higher risk of illness. Therefore, people should develop healthy sleeping habits, such as following a regular sleep schedule and avoiding electronic devices before bedtime. Getting enough sleep is essential for living a healthy and productive life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as mentioning fatigue and poor concentration as consequences, and suggesting educational campaigns and parental guidance as solutions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The introduction misinterprets the prompt slightly by stating it will discuss 'problems that can cause lack of sleep' rather than the 'problems that lack of sleep can cause,' which creates a slight confusion in the focus. While the points are clear, they could be expanded with more depth or specific examples to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all parts of the task sufficiently.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from causes to solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Another reason,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally slightly awkward, such as the phrase 'there are many difficulties but this can be fixed,' where 'this' lacks a clear antecedent. Despite these minor issues, the paragraphing is appropriate and the overall structure supports the development of the argument effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'insomnia,' 'deficiency,' and 'fatigue.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'teach their kins' (a misuse of 'kin') and 'keep the body fit and fine.' The vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. More sophisticated collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include capitalization errors ('In Todays world,' 'For Instance'), missing articles ('the major reason in having difficulty'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('this can be due to tension... or even this can be due to lack of time'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, article usage, and ensuring consistent capitalization.
