Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention stress and social media as causes, the explanation remains quite general. For instance, the link between social media and sleep is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of how it specifically prevents sleep (e.g., blue light or mental stimulation). Similarly, the solutions are listed rather than explained in depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or logical consequences to support your arguments, ensuring the ideas are fully extended rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Firstly'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the impact of social media and the solutions paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, there are some minor issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas, which slightly affects the overall readability and flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common, repetitive phrases like 'good job', 'bad effect', and 'good habits'. While these words communicate your meaning clearly, they do not demonstrate the range of vocabulary required for a higher band. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'having a less sleep', which should be 'getting less sleep' or 'a lack of sleep'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to health and psychology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include missing articles (e.g., 'in todays world' should be 'in today's world'), incorrect verb forms, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'To conclude it, there are alot of causes'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your control over sentence structure.
