Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, the majority of individuals are unable to get proper sleep, and there are numerous problems behind this, such as stressful lives and hectic schedules. Although, different steps should be taken to solve this problem, such as daily exercise, a healthy diet, meditation and so on. However, I will discuss these points briefly in the upcoming paragraphs with relevant examples.

To begin with, the first and foremost reason behind this is that nowadays, due to a hectic lifestyle, most of the individuals face this problem because of inflation; everything is so expensive, so to solve this issue, people enrol in multiple jobs to fulfil the basic needs of their family. Another significant reason is a stressful life because of several responsibilities and work pressure; individuals think a lot every time about how to achieve desired goals, that affect their sleep. For example, last year in June, I also faced this problem because I did not get the desired marks in my first aid and CPR course. As a result, I felt so demotivated, and I overthought this and faced difficulties getting enough sleep. Thus, everyone mustn't think a lot because otherwise it is not good for their health.

Apart from that, there are several ways to solve this problem; doing daily exercise and eating a balanced diet help individuals get rid of this problem because a healthy diet prepares individuals mentally, and exercise makes them physically fit. If everyone follows these two things in their daily life, then this problem will definitely be solved easily.

In conclusion, lack of sleep is a major issue that everyone faces nowadays because taking necessary steps helps people to solve this issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention 'stressful lives' and 'hectic schedules', the explanation of the actual consequences of sleep deprivation (e.g., health issues, cognitive decline, or productivity loss) is limited. The solutions provided are also quite generic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments with more depth and specific detail, rather than listing multiple points briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from that', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The concluding paragraph is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points discussed in the body, which limits the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common phrases like 'hectic lifestyle', 'basic needs', and 'desired marks'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is somewhat repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items related to health and psychology. For instance, instead of 'solve this problem', you could use 'alleviate this issue' or 'mitigate the negative effects'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'everyone mustn't think a lot' (which is slightly unnatural) and issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'that affect their sleep' should be 'that affects'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help you achieve a higher band score.
