Student answer (Band 7.0)
Sleep deprivation is seen as an emerging health concern these days as people are concentrating more on other things than having enough rest. It leads to a huge number of behavioral, physical and cognitive inaccuracies. However it can be easily tackled by having a proper work-life balance and some small changes in daily routine.
Initially, sleep and work are equally important. A poor sleep has a major impact on one's concentration power. People with lower amount of sleep find it very difficult to focus on things properly because they are always sleepy and cannot fully understand what is happening around them. Thus, it becomes hard to pay attention to the other things as they feel tired mentally. Moreover, less sleeps means a person is physically tired as well. This is because the body does not get required rest and cannot fully recover the broken cells inside, which in turn drains energy levels quickly. So, a person feels physically weak and exhausted. Additionally, it also affects the behavior. A tired person can be very moody, showing some issues with their behavior such as excessive sadness or rudeness can be signs of an over-tired person.
Nonetheless, these issued are resolvable. A proper work-life balance can help achieve the goal. One needs to alter the daily routine. For example, taking time to read a story book or listening to music before sleep helps calm the nervous system and relaxes the person's mood. As a result, these small changes will be very beneficial for a deep sleep. The screen time must be limited in the evenings to prepare the brain for sleep. Furthermore, some physical activities like light exercises or yoga will not only help reduce stress and increase blood flow in the body but also help sleep peacefully. Consequently, by taking these simple steps, sleep can be made much easier and advantageous.
In conclusion, no doubt the sleep deprivation reduces focus, physical fitness and creates mood swing, but some simple things can help get a better sleep and increase productivity. Everyone needs to think about their sleep and if it is problematic, there are several solutions for the issue and it can be sorted out with ease.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the consequences of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped. The introduction clearly states the scope of the essay, and the body paragraphs provide sufficient detail. For instance, the discussion on cognitive and physical impacts is well-supported by explanations regarding concentration and cellular recovery. The solutions offered, such as limiting screen time and practicing yoga, are practical and directly answer the prompt. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific, real-world examples or elaborate further on the long-term health implications to add more depth to the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the problems and solutions is smooth. The student uses a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Moreover', 'Nonetheless', and 'Consequently' to link sentences and ideas effectively. While the paragraphing is appropriate, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though occasionally the flow could be improved by varying the sentence structure to avoid repetitive starts. Overall, the information is easy to follow and the structure supports the central argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'emerging health concern', 'nervous system', and 'work-life balance' are used appropriately. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural collocations or word choices, such as 'concentration power' instead of 'concentration' or 'less sleeps' instead of 'lack of sleep'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions would enhance the lexical variety and demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is consistently clear. However, there are some recurring grammatical errors, such as 'these issued are resolvable' (should be 'issues') and 'less sleeps means' (should be 'less sleep means'). Additionally, some sentences could be more complex to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control. While the punctuation is generally accurate, the frequency of minor errors in subject-verb agreement and word forms keeps the score at this level. Increasing the use of varied subordinate clauses would improve the range score.
