Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has been widely observed that a lot of people cannot sleep for enough hours. There are multiple issues associated for why this happens; however, with the right measures in place, this situation can be resolved. This essay will discuss both the issues due to this and solutions for such condition.
To begin with, insomnia can disrupt anyone's emotional behaviour. This is largely because inadequate sleep can keep someone frustrated of everything. This, in turn, will make them irritated and violent at all times. Furthermore, sleeplessness can deteriorate someone's ability to focus. A great example of this is that, a lot of students cannot concentrate in their exams because they suffer from lack of sleep due to the stress caused by the exam.
Fortunately, with the right steps in place, people can complete their full sleep cycle. Firstly, meditation has a positive impact on human sleep. Thereafter, taking magnesium before going to bed can support healthy sleep cycle as it has proven medical properties. Thirdly, reduced screen time before sleeping can also help with feeling sleepy quicker. Last but not the least, having a cold shower can slow the nervous system down, and this approach can promote healthy sleep schedule as well.
In conclusion, it is true numerous people have a concern about not having enough sleep. This can also lead to many issues such as emotional imbalance. While this may be true, right measures such as taking supplements or having a cold shower can help a better quality of sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as emotional instability and concentration issues, and the solutions provided, like meditation and reducing screen time, are practical. However, the development is somewhat limited. The points are stated rather than fully extended with detailed explanations or deeper analysis. For instance, the link between stress and exam performance is mentioned but could be expanded to show the broader impact on academic achievement. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a more thorough explanation or a more specific, illustrative example.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'Fortunately', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be better linked to create a more cohesive narrative. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task. You have used some topic-specific terms like 'insomnia', 'nervous system', and 'emotional imbalance'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise. For example, 'frustrated of everything' is an incorrect collocation; 'frustrated with everything' would be more natural. Additionally, some phrases are repetitive, such as 'right measures' and 'right steps'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'associated for why' should be 'associated with why', and 'cannot sleep for enough hours' is slightly unnatural compared to 'cannot get enough sleep'. There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of prepositions will help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
