Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention 'addiction and anxiety' as problems, the explanation remains superficial. The example regarding a Canadian survey is vague and lacks a clear connection to the specific health consequences of sleep deprivation. Furthermore, the solutions focus exclusively on children, whereas the prompt asks about the general issue of sleep difficulties. To improve, ensure your ideas are fully extended with specific, logical reasoning that applies to the broader scope of the question rather than focusing solely on one demographic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body and conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'some people do not refrain from this', where the antecedent for 'this' is ambiguous. Additionally, the final paragraph is somewhat repetitive and lacks a strong summary of the points discussed. Improving the variety of cohesive links and ensuring clear referencing would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'insomnia', 'extracurricular', and 'alleviate'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'exaggerate enough sleep period' and 'refreshen their mind'. These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your argument. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are contextually accurate. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated academic vocabulary would also be beneficial for achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many children has daily habit') and article usage. Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'children may able to work in right direction', which is missing a verb. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb forms will help improve your overall control.
