Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, an increasing number of people are complaining that they have difficulties getting enough sleep. While several problems such as anxiety and heart problems can be attributed to the lack of sleep, sleep habits can be improved by following the healthy routine, refraining coffee or tea consumption before a few hours of sleep and reducing screen time.
The main issue caused by the lack of sleep is anxiety and stress. Humans' mind often have a lot of thoughts running, so mind can only relax and regulate when they are sleeping which stops these thoughts for a while. If an individual does not take enough sleep, their mind cannot relax and overfilled with the thoughts, and in today's fast-paced world many people often have negative thoughts. As a result, these thoughts caused stress and anxiety. Furthermore, rest or sleep not only relaxes the mind but also relaxes the body. So, if the body do not get enough rest, they need more blood circulation, which cause stress on heart, since it pumps the blood in the entire body and may increase the risk of heart problem.
There are a few steps that can improve sleeping habits significantly. First and foremost, many working people work long hours at the office where they spend a long time in front of the screen, which affect their brain cells, that lead to lack of sleep. So, the employers should encourage their employer to take breaks every hour and spend this time in the fresh air, which directly help him to sleep early. Secondly, many people generally consume coffee or tea to work actively, but these drinks contain caffeine which keeps a person awake for a long time. Consequently, people find difficulties to sleep on time. So, if through seminars or webinars in office, people should be educated about their consequences, that could improve sleeping habits.
In conclusion, many people are suffering from sleep deprivation that can cause anxiety and heart issues. So to address this issue, people should be encouraged to reduce screen time and coffee or tea consumptions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between sleep and anxiety or heart health, and the suggestions regarding screen time and caffeine are practical. However, the development is occasionally repetitive, and some arguments, such as the claim that screen time affects 'brain cells' leading to sleep loss, lack scientific precision. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced explanations rather than repeating the same concepts in different phrasing. Overall, the position is clear and the task requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'First and foremost', and 'Consequently', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'they' in 'if the body do not get enough rest, they need more blood circulation'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'sleep deprivation', 'caffeine', and 'blood circulation'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'refraining coffee' (should be 'refraining from') and 'take enough sleep' (should be 'get enough sleep'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'the body do not get' instead of 'does not get', and 'mind can only relax... when they are sleeping' (referring to 'mind' as plural). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage errors. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
