Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as mentioning stress, health issues like obesity, and solutions like exercise and work-life balance. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the suggestion of 'migration' as a solution in the conclusion is unclear and lacks explanation, making it an irrelevant or confusing point. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'To conclusion this'. However, some of these are used incorrectly or awkwardly, such as 'To conclusion this' (should be 'In conclusion') and 'in result' (should be 'as a result'). The flow of ideas is generally logical, but the mechanical nature of the transitions and some awkward phrasing occasionally hinder the smooth progression of the argument. Paragraphing is present and appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of unnatural collocations or word choice errors, such as 'introduces a good health' (should be 'promotes good health'), 'taking needed hours of sleep' (should be 'getting sufficient sleep'), and 'doing gym' (should be 'going to the gym'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles with idiomatic usage and accurate collocations, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'a considerable number of people experiencing' (missing auxiliary verb), 'this problems' (number disagreement), 'Overwork put more pressure' (tense error), and 'Individuals, who suffering' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the 5.0–5.5 range.
