Student answer (Band 6.0)

In these days few individuals are facing problems with their sleep cycle as they are unable to fulfill an average sleep requirement by a body. There can be many reasons why this is an upsurging issue as well as it can cause many harmful diseases. I will be providing the affects of not resting well along with few solutions in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with the devasting harms, lack of focus at work. In other words, If we do not sleep well at night we cannot focus on tasks which requires the attention to detail. Moreover, an individual with deprived sleep tends to make more mistakes at work ultimately leading to leaving a bad impression in overall professional career. In addition, It can lead to many health issues. In simple terms, most of the gut issues are related to lack of sleep or a bad sleep cycle. For example, a research by the health Canada shows that about 56 % of diseases have the lack of sleep as their root cause.

On the other hand, we can mitigate this problem by implementing a few lifestyle changes. Firstly, by managing stress as it is one the reasons behind not getting enough sleep. It is to say that, due to this competitive era everyone is in rat race of making money while forgetting about a work life balance. We have to priotize our health over work as youngsters are over grinding at work and not having enough time to rest. Secondly, addictions to mobile phones. There are many apps nowadays which can keep you engage for long time such as, Instagram reels, Netflix and Twitter. This apps are design to trap an individual in loop without realising about time.

To concludes, lack of sleep is a common problem these days due to several factors but it can be easily solved by one's due deligence and better time management.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact on professional performance and the role of digital distractions. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the point about 'gut issues' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with a logical link. While the position is clear, some arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and the conclusion is quite brief. Overall, the response covers the requirements well enough for a solid band 6, but it lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'It is to say that' or 'In simple terms'. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the health impact and the research citation feels a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the problem to the solution, which keeps the essay coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate', 'upsurging', and 'due diligence'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'devasting harms' (devastating effects), 'addictions to mobile phones' (addiction to), and 'keep you engage' (keep you engaged). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, like 'in rat race of making money'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and collocation to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'a research by the health Canada', 'This apps are design'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in comma usage and capitalization (e.g., 'In addition, It can lead...'). The errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, but they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining the structure of complex sentences.
