Student answer (Band 5.0)

If we had a deep and clear look in the given statement it is clear that the topic is all about not taking a good sleep.

In my opinion, sleep is the most important thing to take after waking up all the day. Our body muscles need rest for a complete recovery and for this we need to sleep eight hours in a day. Our mind need peace for sometime and the best thing is to calm our mind we need to take a good nape.

As we can see nowadays people are not taking complete nape and it is not good for the health. When they wakeup early in the morning they feel tired and feel low. If we do not take 8 hours sleep in a day our body get more tired and lazy in results we cannot perform our work well and become weak.

Sleep is the most important role that is being played for a good health and fitness purposes. We can fix this bad habit that sleeping less in a day. First we need to sleep at time some people sleep mid-night and wakeup early in the morning this bad habit make them weak and lazy and they cannot perform well in their work.

We need to sleep at night and sleep eight hours then wakeup early in the morning we will feel fresh and after few week we can see the result that our physical health is improving and our body stay fit and feel good.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is quite limited. The ideas regarding the consequences (feeling tired, lazy, weak) are repetitive and lack depth or specific examples. The solutions offered are also somewhat simplistic, focusing only on the need to sleep at night. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on the consequences, such as the impact on mental health, productivity, or long-term physical health, and provide more detailed, practical solutions beyond just 'sleeping at night'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices; the transitions between sentences are basic, often relying on simple structures. While the paragraphing is present, the internal flow within paragraphs is hindered by the repetitive nature of the arguments. To improve, try using a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. Words like 'good', 'bad', 'tired', 'lazy', and 'weak' are used frequently throughout the text. There is little attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary. For example, instead of 'good health', you could use 'optimal well-being' or 'physical vitality'. The term 'nape' is used incorrectly; you likely meant 'nap', but even then, the context of 'taking a good nap' to solve chronic sleep deprivation is not entirely accurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terms is essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Our mind need', 'body get', 'habit make') and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences and comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on mastering subject-verb agreement and incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as conditional or relative clauses, would significantly improve your score.
