IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Nowadays many people complain that they have difficulties getting enough sleep. What problems can lack of sleep cause? What can be done about lack of sleep?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Sleep deprivation has become a biggest issue among people thesedays. There are several problems can occur due to lack of sleep. In order to improve sleeping habits, certain effective measures can be taken.

One main issue why people are failed to take proper sleep during night time is that the excessive use of technology. It has become quite common among people to use smartphones till late night instead of sleeping on time. Due to which, they are unable to get enough sleep according to need. As a result, they feel sleepy throughout the day and cannot concentrate properly on the tasks.

Another problem is busy workaholic schedule is also responsible for lack of sleep. People are busy in their daily routine and spend a large amount of time at their workplaces and sometimes do overtimes in order to become financially stable and meet all the necessities. That is why, they have very less time to get enough sleep. Consequently, sometimes they are unable perform better on assigned tasks which can effect the productivity and it can lead to stress and depression.

In order to tackle this issue, the government should spread awareness among people about the negative consequences of excessive use of electronic gadgets. This can help people to limit the use of electronic appliances. Apart from this, employers can reduce the working hours for their employees and also can provide them bonus and other benefits. This can help them to fulfill their needs and take proper rest.

In conclusion, lack of sleep can cause laziness, stress and depression among individuals, this problem can be reduced with the assist of official authorities and employers. Maintaining a balance in the use of phones and working hours can be an effective solution.
