Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that technological devices signal the brain to stay awake, the specific health consequences (e.g., cognitive impairment, mood swings, or physical health risks) are not fully explored. Similarly, the solutions are presented in a general way. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific examples. For instance, rather than just stating that a routine is beneficial, explain how it regulates the body's circadian rhythm to improve sleep quality.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, there are instances where the flow is interrupted by sentence fragments or awkward phrasing, such as 'Such as fixing a daily routine, reduce use of technological devices.' This makes the connection between ideas feel mechanical at times. To reach a higher band, ensure that each sentence is complete and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly within and between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'compelling reason,' 'technological devices,' and 'circadian rhythm' (implied). However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'hit to dopamine' and 'primitive steps' (where 'proactive' or 'preventative' would be more appropriate). Additionally, some phrasing is repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid using informal phrasing like 'wasted 3/4 hours' and instead use more formal language to describe the impact of screen time on sleep patterns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'while watching electronic screens it contains harmful rays which is signaling' is a run-on sentence with subject-verb agreement issues. You also have several sentence fragments, such as 'Such as fixing a daily routine, reduce use of technological devices.' To improve, focus on ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on your use of relative clauses and prepositions. Reducing these basic errors will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
