Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the impact of workplace pressure is clearly explained, the connection between family dynamics and sleep is less logical and slightly tangential. The examples provided, such as the UK poll authority and Hindustan magazine, are specific but feel somewhat forced or generic in their application. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point made directly links back to the core issue of sleep deprivation rather than drifting into general advice on family happiness.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from problems to solutions. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'To commence with,' 'Moving further to another side,' and 'In conclusion.' However, some of these transitions are used mechanically or are slightly unnatural in context. Additionally, there are instances where the referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'due to less attraction' in the second paragraph, which makes the flow of ideas difficult to follow. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'lack period allocating with children' and 'sleep accurately.' Some phrases are repetitive, such as 'more and more' and 'in recent period.' While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the overall range is limited, and the errors occasionally hinder the clarity of the message. Focusing on more natural collocations would significantly improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it is reckoned by certain individuals that they faced lot of difficulties'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. For example, 'a out next day' and 'impact on human's sleep' show a lack of control over basic grammar. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is essential.
