Student answer (Band 6.0)

Getting a good sleep is a major concern of few folks in this contemporary era. So, individuals always do complaints about this problem. In this upcoming paragraphs, I will not only discuss the causes of this issue but also explain some real life experiences.

To begin with the causes of not getting a good sleep, first and foremost one is social media and Internet. To explain it more, nowadays individuals prefer to spend their leisure time on social media applications such as Instagram, Tiktok, facebook. People not only just scroll videos or reels but also make new friends and engage with them,

that leads to wastage of time. They prefer to talk with their friends rather than sleeping. secondly, individuals nowadays do different jobs and perform extra work that effect their sleeping cycle. To give an example, A survey was conduct in India in 2018, which showed that people always try to do perform extra shifts in order to make more money and forget their sleep and therefore, this hectic schedule adversely effect on their overall routine.

On the other hand, there are numerous solutions to overcome this issue. Firstly, individuals have to make some efforts and manage their time. for example, people can make time table in order to improve

their lifestyle where they can easily know what is important and what is not, so, they can differenciate easily. Moreover, people can do some exercises or meditations that helps them in order to improve their sleep routine because exercises can not only give us physical benefit but also rejuvinate our mind and helps to overcome mental illness. In order to share my personal experience, I was busy in my studies and work last year and it was hard for me to manage my time therefore, I joined a gym and start to do some physical activities rather than watching reels or taking stress. Interestingly, within a week, I overcome

my problem and also feel fresh and more active.

To conclude, it is very hard to get a good amount

of sleep in this modern era due to hectic schedule

or disatractions around people but one can overcome this issue by applying some good

things such as yoga, meditation,

physical activities and so

on.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of social media and work-life balance. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide a personal example, the discussion of the 'problems' caused by lack of sleep is slightly underdeveloped; you mention a 'hectic schedule' and 'mental illness' but could have elaborated more on the specific physiological or psychological consequences of sleep deprivation to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from causes to solutions. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'secondly', and 'On the other hand'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the fragmented sentence structure in the second paragraph where a comma is used to separate a clause that should be integrated. Paragraphing is present, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'leisure time', 'hectic schedule', and 'meditation'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'do complaints' instead of 'make complaints', 'effect' used instead of 'affect', and 'rejuvinate' (spelling). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and a wider variety of sophisticated vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'A survey was conduct' (should be 'conducted'), 'that helps them' (subject-verb agreement), and 'I start to do' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score in this criterion.
