Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, Insomnia has become a common health issue among people. There are many reasons on which I will shed light along with some appropriate solution to tackle this problem.

To commence with, There are abundant reasons behind why individuals suffer from sleep disorders. The most significant reason is that depression. To elaborate, people are living in a cutthroat competition environment where they are competing with each other to fulfil their needs and demands. So, they work around the clock which creates hectic schedule. As a result, they might face some psychological disorders such as anxiety, stress and depression which is the major reason of insomnia.

On the contrary, some stringent steps need to be taken to fight with this problem. The most prominent solution is that individuals should do meditation and some exercises which helps them to relax and rejuvenate themselves and forget their all worries and stress. For example, London University conducted a survey in 2010 and they found that 80 percent people who go for morning walk and indulge in health center clubs had not any sleeping problem. Apart from this, people should always indulge some physical activities to get rid from sedentary lifestyle. They should spent their quality time with their family and friends instead of living in a materialistic life. Therefore, they are able to find a real happiness in their preset life rather than taking stress for past and future.

In conclusion, although there are certain causes for this problem of sleeping. However, people can solve this problem by taking some step such as involving in phisical activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between depression and insomnia is mentioned, but the specific physical or cognitive consequences of sleep deprivation (such as impaired concentration or weakened immunity) are not explored in depth. The solutions provided, such as meditation and exercise, are practical and clearly linked to the problem. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific examples rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'On the contrary', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are used incorrectly; for example, 'On the contrary' is used to introduce solutions, but it is typically used to contrast two opposing ideas. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally mechanical. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'sedentary lifestyle', and 'rejuvenate'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'indulge some physical activities' (should be 'engage in') and 'get rid from' (should be 'get rid of'). There are also minor spelling errors like 'phisical'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to work on more precise collocations and ensure that less common words are used accurately to move into the higher band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the most significant reason is that depression' (unnecessary 'that'), '80 percent people' (missing 'of'), and 'they should spent' (incorrect verb tense). Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization errors, such as the unnecessary capitalization of 'Insomnia' and the comma splice in the conclusion. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and verb forms will lead to significant improvement.
