Student answer (Band 6.0)

Getting enough sleep is very important for one's mental and physical health. These days, people often complain about inadequate sleep. There are many problems associated with lack of sleep and there are solutions too, which I will discuss in forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, insufficient sleep can cause many health problems which includes but not limited to anxiety, obesity and depression. Not only this but it can also cause dark circles under eyes and many skin problems too. According to one study, chances of heart attack increases by 15%, if an individual is sleeping less than 7 hours a day. Moreover, person does not feel productive if he has a problem of lack of sleep. He can not focus on one particular task and loose motivation too easily, which is very bad for their professional career. Sometimes, a person stays in angry mode because of it and behaves rudely with others.

However, nowadays, there are many solutions for this problem. For example, there are many medicines available in the market which helps for better sleep and does not cause any harm to one's health, as these medicines are made from completely natural ingredients. Furthermore, one of the main reasons why people have this problem is use of too much phone before going to bed. According to doctors, everyone should avoid the use of any devices 2 hours before going to bed and they also suggest to meditate for 15 minutes at night for better sleep.

In conclusion, lack of sleep can cause many mental and physical problems to one's health, and a person can not feel productive through out the day because of it ,but by avoiding phone before the bed, meditation and some medicines can solve this problem easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as mentioning health issues like obesity and depression, and practical solutions like reducing screen time and meditation. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'medicines' is vague and lacks detail, and the explanation of professional consequences could be expanded with more specific examples. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the level of detail is consistent with a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally clear. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'it' in the conclusion, which refers back to a complex idea rather than a specific noun. Paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural, sophisticated structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'inadequate', 'productive', and 'ingredients'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'angry mode' and 'loose motivation' (should be 'lose'). To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express ideas with greater nuance and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('chances... increases', 'medicines... helps'), missing articles ('use of too much phone'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and article usage, as well as refining the use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
