Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the mention of 'fewer and rise in blood pressure' is unclear and lacks sufficient explanation. While the response covers the requirements, the supporting points could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the physical health impacts and the mention of productivity. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'fewer and rise in blood pressure' and 'using smartphone... can stimulate brain'. The word 'effect' is incorrectly used as a verb instead of 'affect' multiple times. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word form and collocation limit the score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would significantly improve your performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, such as 'Children with less sleep can have low productivity', and confusion between 'effect' and 'affect'. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. While the meaning is usually conveyed, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for common verb-form errors would be beneficial.
