Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is an irrefutable fact that sleep plays an vital role in overall development. While some people face problems in getting proper sleep, others reject the notion. However, I believe there are several reasons such as stress and hectic work schedule, which need urgent action. This essay will analyze the problems and solutions by taking examples to demonstrate points and prove arguments.
To begin with, people are having sleeping disorders because lack of vitamins in diet and improper sleeping schedule, which causes lack of sleep. People often focus on working during the night and sacrifice deep sleep. Also, since citizens prefer working during the nights, as a result, it increases the stress and risk of depression, which affects the sleeping schedule. For example, in India, many employees work for overseas companies and have to attend meetings in the night. Therefore, they sacrifice their sleeping schedule and later face the difficulties in getting proper sleep.
However, several methods can be taken in overcoming this problem. Firstly, people should eat food full with vitamins such as iron and magnesium, which can assist them in improving their quality of sleep. Moreover, not only proper work-life balance but also meditation and regular exercise are vital for getting quality sleep. Hence, healthy diet, work-life balance and regular exercise can help everyone in improving their sleep deficiency. For instance, recent studies highlight that magnesium can assist people in getting deep sleep, which can recover their physical and mental health.
To conclude, although improper diet and working schedule can affect the sleeping schedule, these can be overcome by having healthy diet and well balanced daily routine.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of stress, depression, and the impact of work-life balance. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that lack of sleep causes 'stress and risk of depression,' you could have elaborated more on the physical health consequences or cognitive impairments to provide a more comprehensive answer. The position is clear, but the introduction is slightly repetitive, and the conclusion is brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanations or specific, well-integrated examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'However,' and 'Moreover' to link ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; for example, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'which causes lack of sleep' is slightly redundant given the preceding clause. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure helps the reader follow your argument without difficulty. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices to create a more natural flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'irrefutable fact,' 'hiccup,' 'deficiency,' and 'meditation.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'food full with vitamins' should be 'food rich in vitamins,' and 'sacrifice their sleeping schedule' is slightly unnatural; 'disrupt their sleep patterns' would be more precise. There are also minor errors such as 'an vital role' (should be 'a vital role'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is an attempt to use complex forms, such as 'Although improper diet and working schedule can affect the sleeping schedule, these can be overcome...' However, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'people are having sleeping disorders because lack of vitamins' (missing 'of'), 'meetings in the night' (should be 'at night'), and 'having healthy diet' (missing an article). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on article usage and prepositional accuracy, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater precision.
