Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between 'lack of sleep' and 'incompetence' is mentioned but not fully explored with depth. The solutions provided, such as using a sleep schedule and reducing screen time, are relevant but could be expanded upon with more sophisticated reasoning or broader societal perspectives. The position is clear, but the overall response feels a bit brief in its analysis, preventing it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to it', 'However', and 'To sum up', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition from the impact of screen time to the personal example in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some repetitive phrases, such as 'lack of sleep' and 'screen time'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'intellectual abilities' and 'productive', the range is somewhat limited. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'facing issues to get' instead of 'facing issues getting' or 'having a track of' instead of 'keeping track of'. To improve, the student should incorporate more sophisticated collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'significant number of people' should be 'a significant number of people', and 'one of the important factor' should be 'one of the important factors'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to enhance accuracy.
