Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the consequences of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as physical health issues and mental strain, and the solutions provided, like therapy and exercise, are logical. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of 'metabolic issues' is not expanded upon, and the solutions could be more nuanced. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a deeper exploration of the causes to reach a higher band. Overall, it covers all requirements of the task adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'First and foremost', and 'Furthermore', though some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between sentences could be smoother in some places. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions, which helps the reader follow the argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate' and 'adversely', which are used correctly. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'ill-mannered' (used incorrectly to describe a sleep cycle) and 'effect' instead of 'affect'. Spelling errors like 'funtioning' and 'litle' also occur. While these do not impede communication, they limit the score as they show a lack of precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the sleep cycle... in disturbed' and 'sleeping for less hours will slower the recovery'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining the use of complex structures.
