Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays an increasing number of individuals complain that it is quite challenging getting enough sleep. This is believed to be as a result of working tirelessly and fatigue. Individuals to learn to organise their schedule and do not over work themselves.
People tends not get enough sleep especially when they work tirelessly. This is because some organisations usually overwork their employees and make them stay overtime even though it is not in their job description. For example, a media agency often asks their interns or junior colleagues to work more than the working hours which makes them have insufficient sleep.
Individuals who are exhausted from their daily work can also cause lack of sleep. This is because fatigue can lead to physical and mental exhaustion. In addition, it increases the rate at which dopamine is inhibited. For instance, when the body is stressed from a lot of activities and thoughts, it could reduce sleeping and make the individuals active.
Lack of sleep can be minimized if the individual learn to organise their schedule. This can be done by creating a timetable that does not interfere with their daily routine and sleep. It will enable the individual perform better in their place of work. To illustrate, a company at Lafarage made sure that everyone follows the time-table and close work on time in order for them to prepare for work the next day.
Certain policies should be made in order to reduce overworking in the industry. This is because overworking could lead to stress and breakdown of individuals, in most cases death. For example, an employee at Nestle died at his office at night when he was working overtime. Investigations shows that he was highly overworked and has not slept for 3 days.
In conclusion, people complain that it is difficult to get enough sleep because of fatigue and they work tirelessly to exhaustion. This problem can be solved by making a schedule of daily routine and not overworking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as workplace pressure and the need for better scheduling. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the examples provided (e.g., the media agency and the Nestle employee) are illustrative, some points remain slightly underdeveloped or repetitive. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements of the task effectively, providing a balanced view of the problem and actionable solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the topic. There is a clear progression of ideas from the problem to the solution. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition,' 'For instance,' and 'In conclusion,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the central topic of each paragraph is generally easy to follow. To improve, you could vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and less reliant on simple connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'inhibited' and 'exhaustion,' though some word choices are slightly imprecise or awkward, such as 'working tirelessly and fatigue' or 'reduce sleeping.' The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary would enhance the quality of the writing. Spelling is generally accurate, and the errors present do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('People tends not get enough sleep') and awkward phrasing ('Individuals to learn to organise'). While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence construction that affect the flow. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, will help improve your score.
